MENTORING MADE EASY.
To provide students with support and assistance during the transition from high school to higher education, Indy Achieves offers a low-commitment program where local civic and business leaders volunteer as mentors to send Marion County high school seniors text messages to help guide them through the college enrollment process.
WHAT IS “SUMMER MELT”?
Research finds that about one in five college-bound high school graduates who have been accepted to and intend to enroll in college fail to matriculate because of unforeseen challenges they encounter during the summer.
HOW CAN MENTORS HELP?
Sending students text messages reminding them of tasks they need to complete leads to substantial increases in college access, with the biggest impacts on the most disadvantaged and underserved students.
WHAT IS THE COMMITMENT?
Mentors are asked to spend one hour each month to send mentees texts beginning during the spring semester their senior high school year, through their first semester at a higher education institution. Indy Achieves provides guidance and verbiage for texts based on whether they are attending Ivy Tech or IU Indianapolis.
